AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Travis County Commissioners are expected to vote on an item involving STARFlight and receive an update on the lawsuit involving the suicide of a county inmate.

Commissioners will discuss the use of STARFlight and reimbursement for their travels as backup for additional emergencies. Flight paramedics are often asked to help with other emergencies around Central Texas. This item involves more than $22,000 for services provided by STARFlight last May.

Commissioners are also receiving an update in a lawsuit involving the suicide of a county inmate. The family of Jhane Frye is suing the Sheriff and county. Frye’s mother says 27-year-old Jhane told officers he was suicidal when he was arrested on aggravated assault charges in January of 2013.

The lawsuit claims the Sheriff’s office did nothing to prevent Jhane’s death. Using protrusion points and available materials, the lawsuit said, Frye was able to kill himself in his unsupervised cell.

Frye’s mother is seeking damages for the families’ mental anguish, and loss of companion, in addition to damages to their estate.
