Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) is a local arts and culture non-profit agency whose principal work is to implement the City of Houston’s vision, values, and goals for its arts grantmaking and civic art investments. HAA’s work is conducted through contracts with the City of Houston, overseen by the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. HAA also executes privately funded special projects to meet the needs of the arts community, such as disaster preparation, research on the state of the arts in Houston, and temporary public art projects that energize neighborhoods.

In short, HAA helps artists and nonprofits be bold, productive, and strong.

APPLICANT AND GRANTEE EXPERIENCES

“I am a first-time applicant and recipient of the Houston Arts Alliance, Support for Artists and Creative Individuals grant. Ascendants from the Future is a macramé, lighting, and experimental music installation that took place at the Orange Show over the span of one month. The SACI grant gave me the opportunity to pay assistants and local musicians and to be able to document my work.”
— Sonia Flores, first time grant recipient
“As an artist-activist in the Houston Latino art community, I feel it is incumbent on each of us to serve at least once a year as a panelist. This allows us to have a say in the kind of work we want to see funded by the City of Houston. To serve as a public servant in this process illustrates the importance of our contributions as artists.”
— Henry Sanchez, artist-activist, HAA grantee & panel participant
