Gothenburg, Sweden-based trio Emmecosta make “post-club tropical indie soul” music. That may sound like some nasty genre-blending soup, but they have a deft touch that gives each element room to breathe or seamlessly melds them at precise moments. Their debut EP, Untied, displayed how they can build up and break down soundscapes with a fluidity and ease that escapes many acts that combine different styles. Their latest single, “His Power Of Youth,” from an upcoming followup EP due early next year, continues to show their prowess. Shimmering atmospheric sweeps, synth flourishes, funky guitar and bass, tropical percussion, and soulful crooning combine for exquisitely layered texture. Check it out below.
