Stewardship Update
As of November 21st, 196 households have pledged for a total of $633,459. We are slightly ahead of last year at this time! Thank you for your responsiveness and faithful generosity. Around 95% of households who have pledged have sustained or increased their pledge, which is tremendous. St John's is blessed because of each one of you, and because of you, St. John's is able to extend God's blessing to the world. Thank you.

FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORT
The Finance Committee would like to let you know that for the 9th month in a row our General Offering is ahead of budget! This is due in large part to parishioners doing a good job of keeping up with their pledge payments. If you have made an effort to stay current on your pledge payments, thank you! Your good effort matters! For all pledgers, now is a great time--before the busyness of the holidays--to check your records and assure you are close to fulfilling your 2018 pledge. HONORING BISHOP ROB O'NEILL'S MINISTRY WITH US
In March, Bishop O'Neill will conclude his 15 wonderful years of ministry with us. We each have a chance to say "thank you" and to honor him by contributing to the building of cabins at Cathedral Ridge--our camp and conference center near and dear to +Rob's heart. You'll find a bulletin insert in your service leaflet on Nov 18th. You can also visit EpiscopalColorado.org. In addition to contributing money, you are invited to fill out a card of thanks to +Rob. Special cards are available in the church office. We'll collect them and send them to him. He has been an extraordinary Bishop to our diocese and now is the time to say "thank you", "we love you", and "blessing on your retirement!". |

Get Ready for the St. John's Christmas Pageant
Our Annual Christmas pageant will be Sunday, December 9th at the 9:30 am service. The pageant is one of St. John's beloved traditions, and it's something your children will remember forever.
Rehearsal and costume distribution for lead parts will be on the day before, Saturday, December 8th, at 10 am. Children who want major parts (Mary, Joseph, Gabriel, the star, and three kings) must attend rehearsal.
Parts will be assigned by age with the older children choosing first, by 10:10 am. If your child wants a major part, please be at rehearsal by that time.
Angels and shepherds of all ages can pick up their costumes at 8:45 am on Sunday, December 9th, the morning of the pageant.

Inter-generational Advent Wreath Making
Sunday, November 25th We'll celebrate the beginning of Advent by gathering in the parish hall at 11:15 a.m. to make Advent wreaths with real greens. We'll sing Christmas carols and enjoy hot chocolate while we work. The cost for the workshop is $15 if you need a metal wreath form or $10 if you're reusing one. (Scholarships are available.)

We have enough supplies for about 50 wreaths, and they'll be available on the 25th on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you'd like to guarantee a wreath for your family, send a check (made out to St. John's with "Advent Wreath" on the memo line) to the address below by

Outreach Partner Sunday, Nov 25th—At the 930am service that day we will lift in prayer all the non-profit organizations that your generosity has supported in 2018 through our Designated Loose Plate Offering. We're inviting a representative from each non-profit to come and receive a donation check from St John's. We'll pray for the mission of each non-profit in lieu of the Prayers of the People that day. This is a wonderful way to see what blessings your generous giving has made possible.

COOKIE BAKERS NEEDED
Pastoral care elves need cookie bakers and sweet treat makers for annual Christmas cookie bag deliveries to parish members unable to worship with us during our Christmas season. You may bring your cookie donation to the St. John's office on Wednesday, Dec. 5th or Thursday, Dec 6th during regular business hours or deliver your goodies to the to parish hall at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8th.

New Ministry — “Enlightenment”
facilitated by Ellen Winner
We’d like to organize a new ministry at St. John’s for open-minded people interested in Spiritual Enlightenment, broadly defined as recognizing and living from our oneness with All-That-Is, aka God, Source, etc. — that which stirs our deepest longing. The idea is to meet on a regular schedule to explore and teach each other practices and perspectives useful on our paths — what Buddhists call “skillful means.” These are practices rather than beliefs. An example is Tonglen, a traditional Tibetan Buddhist breathing and visualization practice for dissolving self-grasping and alleviating the suffering of others. Another example is the work of contemporary spiritual teacher Byron Katie to break habits of dualistic thought. Christian skillful means include Communion, repentance and forgiveness, acts of charity, Centering Prayer, and others. There are many, many traditional and modern skillful means, with more emerging all the time. We all know a few. They come in meditation, dreams and intuitions, from lessons we learn facing life challenges, spiritual teachers we’ve found, and library or online research. HOORAY FOR GROCERY CARD MINISTRY TEAM!
"Props" to our great Grocery Card Ministry team: Janice Moore, Jim Podolak, and Caryl Stalick! Because of their enthusiasm and effort in promoting the use of grocery cards to benefit St John's (and because of your using those cards!) St John's has earned $6,200 so far this year. In a leap of faith last winter, we had budgeted $4,600 in income in this budget line item. The team has surpassed that goal by $1,600 and the busy holiday food shopping season has not yet begun! This is a great time to re-load your card and support your church. And if you see Janice, Caryl, or Jim, thank them for their good work!

St. John’s Whittier Pantry
Thank you to parishioners of St. John's for your help in stocking the Whittier Pantry!!! We opened on September 6th and had 7 families come. We will host up to 30 families this school year. We appreciate your donations of items or of checks (with Whittier Pantry in the memo).

Whittier Elementary Children need Coats.
The Whittier Pantry is collecting gently used clean children's coats. Any size that would fit an elementary or middle school child will be repurposed and loved by another child. The pantry you have created for Whittier families has been an absolutely invaluable resource. When I think of all the families that now have the basic supplies they need thanks to you, my heart feels deeply the support and hope that this brings. We will wait with Joseph, John the Baptist, and Mary as we practice the spiritual discipline of waiting on the shoreline of a new world. Poet John O’Donohue notes, “What is nearest to the heart is often farthest from the word,” so as we wait there will be opportunity to explore your world of response through prayer, quiet, and a variety of expressions that require no words. More than 2000 years ago Mary and Joseph risked everything to escape to Egypt because their baby, Jesus, was in danger of being murdered by a violent leader. Today, thousands of families are escaping their home countries because they too feel their lives are threatened by violence and corruption.
In our Baptismal vows, we promise to, “seek and serve Christ in all persons”....”loving {our} neighbors as {ourselves}”...” and respect the dignity of every human being”. Since the beginning of our nation, Americans have been blessed to be able to welcome and comfort law-abiding people who seek only the chance to live in peace and in safety for themselves and their families.

Paul often affirmed members of the churches he shepherded by telling them he was thanking God for them. In Philippians 1:3-5 Paul writes, "I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now."
In this season of Thanksgiving, we lift up the many hands and people who help make St. John’s the community it is: our office volunteers, ministry leaders and members, worship volunteers and servers, Faith Formation teachers and volunteers, musicians and singers, people who pledge and pray and work for the good of the wider Church, those who show up to help us find God in one another and love and serve our neighbors. We are blessed!

As I watched,
thrones were set in place,
and an Ancient One took his throne,
his clothing was white as snow,
