Like their punk forefathers before them, The Regrettes are an outspoken bunch who don’t bend easily (or at all) under pressure, nor feel the need to conform to social norms. The path they trek isn’t the smoothest by any means, but it’s the truest to what they believe at their core.
“I am not scared of anyone judging me, I don’t care,” frontwoman Lydia Night explained in a press statement. “I don’t give a fuck if someone doesn’t like what I have to say.”
The Los Angeles outfit’s latest single “Seashore” is built on this kind of brazen attitude. Though musically calmer than most mosh pit anthems, the track’s real barbs can be found in its lyrics and Night’s confrontational, DGAF delivery, as she takes on all detractors and critics who’ve dismissed her over the years simply because of her age and womanhood: “You’re talkin’ to me like a child, but my words are growin’ stronger, and my legs keep gettin’ longer.”
In a statement to Consequence of Sound, Night says that “‘Seashore’ pretty much sums up my feelings toward all of the assholes who have ever doubted me due to my age or my gender.” Stream it down below.
