The Powerball jackpot has hit a staggering US$1.5 billion. There were no winners in last Saturday’s draw which inflated the jackpot – and the dreams of a lavish lifestyle – for the millions of people who bought tickets for tonight’s draw.
But the odds of winning the jackpot are one in 292.2 million. Basically, the odds are really, really low.
There’s a better chance of being elected as the president of the United States. According to the International Business Times those odds are 1 in 10 million – if you were born in the U.S.
Being crushed and killed by a tipped-over vending machine is also more likely. There’s a 1 in 112 million chance that the stubborn bag of chips will cost you your life.
Even if you’ve never golfed before, you have a better chance at making a hole-in-one. Golf Digest estimates the odds at 1 in 12,500.
And watch out for lightning. The chances of being struck are 1 in 1.19 million the U.S. National Weather Service predicts.
You also have a better chance at having quintuplets than winning the lottery. In the Book of Odds, the chances are listed at 1 in 92,720.
So keep your fingers crossed for tonight`s draw. You’ll need the luck!
