The Park After Dark: Popular Stargazing Locations

Badwater Basin

Because it is the lowest point in the valley, Badwater Basin is a debatable stargazing location. The surrounding mountains block the view of the horizon, so many people avoid this location. What they may not realize, however, is that the mountains are also blocking light pollution from the South, which makes it one of the darkest locations in the Southern end of the park!

Harmony Borax Works

Harmony Borax Works is in an ideal location. See the stars from just outside of your car, or walk a little bit further up Mustard Canyon Road for a more secluded view.

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

Lie back on the soft dunes and take in the evening. Visit during a Full Moon and watch as the glow of the moon reflects off of the dunes and casts deep shadows. Stay away from vegetation to avoid wildlife encounters.
