LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – Twenty Lenawee County businesses have received money from the Michigan Small Business Relief Program.

There were $100,000 in loans and $87,000 in grants distributed to the businesses through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Small Business Relief Program, according to a Lenawee Now news release.

The money was distributed to businesses affected by the stay home order issued during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A committee appointed by Lenawee Now reviewed 150 applications and chose 20 businesses to receive the money, the release states. There were 18 loans and two grants distributed.

“Unfortunately, due to the overall impact of this pandemic, enough funding to assist every business that was affected was just not available,” Executive Director Jim Van Doren said in the release. “We are continuing to collaborate and advocate with local, state, and national partners to provide relief for small businesses.”

The Michigan fund distributed $20 million across the state in loans and grants, the release states.

Lenawee Now knows that small businesses are heavily affected by the stay home order, the release said.

“We are encouraging local businesses to consider additional resources that may be available during this time,” Director of Operations Tim Robinson said in the release. “We are still here to help you navigate your options and point you in the right direction.”
