Grow with Google will provide up to $100,000 in workforce training scholarships for every business in Michigan.
The tech giant’s workforce training initiative Grow with Google said Wednesday, May 4, it will provide all Michigan businesses scholarships for up to 500 Google Career Certificates worth as much as $100,000.
The Google Career Certificates were launched in 2018 and cover training in the areas of data analytics, IT support, project management and user experience design. Google also is launching a new certification in digital marketing and e-commerce.
The certificates do not require a degree or experience and can be completed in three to six months of part-time study.
“Technology continues to drive economic growth and job opportunities. It’s essential that both job seekers and companies have access to the skills needed to grow an online presence and unlock new areas of economic potential,” said Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google. “Google is thrilled to help through our digital marketing and e-commerce certificate and our commitment to enable every American business to upskill their employees at no cost.”
Endorsed by the American Advertising Federation and the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Google digital marketing and e-commerce certificate was designed by experts at Google with input from top e-commerce companies. The certificate will train job seekers in how to find customers online, sell products or services and do marketing analytics and measurement. Learners also get hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and platforms including Canva, Constant Contact, Hootsuite, HubSpot, MailChimp, Shopify, Twitter, Google Ads and Google Analytics.
The program also offers access to an employer consortium of over 150 companies — including Crate & Barrel, Deloitte, Infosys, Verizon, Walmart, Wayfair and Google — committed to considering them for relevant entry-level roles.
Google developed Career Certificates, available on Coursera, to support upskilling in high-demand fields. Over 70,000 people have graduated from the program in the U.S., with 75% of them reporting a new job, higher pay or a promotion within six months of completion.
In February 2022, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced a $100 million fund to enable 20,000 Americans to access the Google Career Certificates with wraparound services, such as professional coaching, interview preparation, job placement assistance and living stipends. The fund is projected to drive more than $1 billion in aggregate wage gains.
